Don't expect to haul a bike frame out of a deep river with this thing. The 500 lbs rating is technically accurate in ideal conditions and technically misleading in practice, same as pretty much every magnet on the market. Real-world pull in silt and at an angle is a fraction of that. You know how this goes.
What it won't do is embarrass you if you're just learning. That matters. You're not going to lose a big find because of the magnet — you're going to lose it because you didn't know how to work the bottom yet, and that's actually a useful thing to figure out cheaply before you've got sixty bucks of magnet bouncing off a bridge pylon.
The coating will eventually chip. The eyebolt is the weakest point. Neither of those things is surprising at this price.
